General education courses are a set of course requirements that allow you to build a foundation of knowledge across a variety of subjects. In California, you will take English, Math, Ethnic Studies, Arts, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Biological and Physical Sciences. Your lower division requirements are made up of mostly general education courses and some major courses.

While this looks different for everybody, at a university, you will be able to go to football games, live with roommates, collaborate on group projects, meet lifelong friends, and create a community and a sense of belonging that you can lean on throughout the rest of your life.

An Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), also known as a Degree with a Guarantee or a 2+2 Degree, is a 2-year degree earned at a California community college that is fully transferable to universities. ‍ The Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) program was initially created in partnership between the California State University (CSU) System and the California Community College System.

To earn a bachelor's degree from a university, you need to take about 60 units of lower division coursework and about 60 units of upper division coursework. Instead of taking all 120 units at a university, you can take your lower division courses at a community college and then transfer to a university to take your upper division courses.
